Ensure understanding with this Thanksgiving Close Reading Comprehension Challenge. This activity focuses on multiple reading strategies including text-marking, context clues, writing, and summarizing all while learning about why we eat turkey on Thanksgiving! Students will examine the reading passage multiple times to complete each of the four tasks using the informational text. The best part…NO PREP for teachers. Just Print and Go!
 
Students will work individually (or in pairs) where they will use reading comprehension skills to complete 4 tasks. As students complete each task, they will bring you their answers to earn a "food piece". After checking, they can move on to the next task. They will repeat the process until all 4 tasks are complete where they will then color, cut and glue their food pieces to their Thanksgiving food card.
 
Include the optional BONUS 5th task for additional fun and learning!
 
This activity can be used for partner activities, anticipatory sets, sub plans, extension activities, early-finishers, stations, or independent work. How you choose to set it up in your classroom is up to you. You my also choose to do one task per day or complete them all in one or two class periods.
